It was now the fourth year in a row that the summer holidays drew me to Sweden. This year, I was very curious how this holiday would go. After all, the Hermannsweg was still in the bones of my foot months later. Bimbi was also very battered this time with her shoulder. So we decided that this year should be a little more senior-friendly. The result was several day trips that were to be linked together. The luxury of a few nights at a campsite with a warm shower and a toilet where the mosquitoes do not suck the blood out of your behind was also part of the rough plan.
Some time ago I was able to capture a beautiful sunset. But as always, pictures are known to say more than a thousand words!
Over the last few years I have repeatedly dedicated myself to GPS navigation with a smartphone. The accuracy required for determining location is quite sufficient for hiking with current models. Since I myself have only been using Android-based smartphones for several years, I will only refer to those in this article. OsmAnd+ is now also available for iOS, but whether this app offers an identical range of features as the Android version is not known to me.
During this time I tested Maps.me, Gaia GPS, Locus Maps, Google Maps and Orux among others for their suitability for hiking and trekking. Yet for over a year now I have ended up using solely OsmAnd+ for this use case and wouldn't want to do without it. So that you don't have to go through the same process, let me introduce you to my favorite and go into detail on the features I have come to appreciate the most.
Pizza is one of the most popular and oldest fast food dishes. Fast food dishes have a very high energy density and are therefore well suited for the trail. Since my cravings on longer trips fluctuate between fast food and bell peppers, this recipe is ideal.
After a strenuous day on the trail, it is nice to cook something tasty to replenish your energy stores. If you really want to enjoy yourself, you should bake. This makes many more dishes possible on a trip, which have a very good ratio of calories per weight.
During a trekking trip, my meals were previously mostly limited to simple freezer-bag dishes. Over time, these dishes became increasingly monotonous to me. That’s why I was often unable to pass a tavern near the trail without stopping in. Eating out often is expensive on the one hand, and on the other hand you’re tied to the kitchen’s opening hours. On this year’s Sweden vacation, therefore, enjoying proper meals takes center stage. An alcohol-based kitchen has many advantages. Among other things, the fuel is easy to obtain all over Europe and can be portioned out to the length of the trip by refilling. That’s why I wanted to try my hand at a gourmet cook set with denatured alcohol.
Lately I have repeatedly asked myself how best to attach a quilt to a sleeping pad in order to prevent cold drafts.
The Nitecore NU 10 is a very good headlamp, made for ultralight trekking. The model is waterproof, rechargeable and offers a brightness that is perfectly sufficient for trekking. The headlamp weighs just 70 grams.
