Trips

Here you can find some reports from my hiking trips.

2018-07 Mittelweg Part 3

After a few weeks a weekend was finally free again and I could tackle the third part of the Mittelweg. So on Friday afternoon I set off straight from work to Titisee-Neustadt. The weather was very rainy and during the train ride it was already pouring properly. When I saw the masses of water, I realized that I probably wouldn't have to worry about drinking water during the hike this weekend, since the springs along the trail would presumably be flowing.

2018-06 Mittelweg Part 2

The many public holidays made May a worker-friendly month. So after just two weeks I could hit the trail again and continue my hike on the Mittelweg.

On Friday morning I got on the train and rode to Freudenstadt. I reached the station at midday in glorious weather and set off straight away.

2018-07 In the Taunus

What a beautiful weekend! Morti invited a few selected forum members over to his region for a small overnight tour. Unfortunately not everyone could make that date, so we were only a small circle. Besides the host, Konradsky, his wife and I were along. Even before the tour began, Morti warned us that we would have to tackle some steep slopes. We were also supposed to carry water for both days, since there would be no opportunity to refill along the way.

2018-02 Hinkelsteinweg

Hardly had the beautiful holiday in Madeira passed when I set off again. I set my sights on the Hinkelsteinweg as the next destination. This premium hiking trail has a length of 40 kilometres. At such a distance you can hike the trail stressfully in one day or comfortably in two. I opted for the more comfortable variant and took two days.

On Saturday morning I drove to Otterberg and parked my car there. The weather was perfect. I couldn't spot a single cloud in the bright blue sky.

During the first few metres it became clear to me that the trail would be very well signposted. The trail's logo adorned almost every other street lamp.

2018-05 Mittelweg Part 1

I eagerly awaited the long Whitsun weekend, because for me it would finally be time to go on tour again. This time I wanted to trek through the Black Forest; more precisely, I wanted to hike the Mittelweg. Like the Ostweg and the Westweg, this trail crosses the Black Forest from north to south.

The total distance of 240 kilometres is divided into nine stages. For the Whitsun weekend I planned to complete the first three stages.

Although I only arrived in Pforzheim in the late afternoon, the sun was shining intensely and strongly. Spring was clearly giving way to summer. So I could count myself lucky to be protected from the sun's rays under the foliage of the Black Forest after a short time. I decided to hike until about 8 pm on the first evening.

2018-02 At Night It Is Colder Than Outside

To show my friends from the north my new home, I invited them for a weekend tour in the Palatinate. The weather forecast predicted a proper temperature drop and we expected temperatures below -10°C at night. On top of that, the sun was supposed to show up all weekend - that sounded like perfect conditions for a tour.

2018-03 Madeira for the Second Time

Right on time for the start of our holiday, Germany showed up with snow and freezing temperatures. In that time we could have done equally nice winter tours, but we had tickets for the south. We wanted to return to the island of eternal spring. Our hope was that the weather would play along a bit better than last time. Compared to the foggy trip two years ago, our preparation was a bit more thorough. Unfortunately, our chosen route offered hardly any opportunity to stop for a meal or buy food.

2018-02 Hiking Is the Palatinate's Delight

All the weekends since my move had been fully booked so far. Friends and family as well as the renovation work on the apartment took up a large part of my time. That's why it took a few weeks before I could go on tour alone again.

Now the time had finally come; it was the first weekend without appointments

2018-01 BCF Winter Gathering

Right at the start of the year, some others and I went out again. On the first weekend of the year, the Bushcraft Friends winter gathering was on the agenda. This gathering was organised by Bimbi in the forum of the same name and the Facebook group of the same name. It took place on the grounds of the Bushcraft Camp Rhön.
