Overview

Welcome to my page all about (ultralight) trekking and hiking! Here I'll be posting new (short) tours, packing lists & information around the topic of traveling on a regular basis. Have fun browsing, Kai

Display on Mobile Devices

Alrighty, I have just optimized the mobile layout a bit so that unnecessary scrolling etc. is a thing of the past. In the same breath, I have also adjusted the spacing of images in the trip reports. If display issues still occur, like unusual scrolling or the like, just let me know wink

2016-03 A Tour on the Edge of Chaos

So, now Bimbi and I are on our way home again. We spent the last few days on the beautiful island of Madeira. Who could have guessed that somehow pretty much everything planned would go down the drain. But one thing at a time.

2016-02 Odenwald & Water

At the weekend I was out and about in the beautiful Odenwald with my better half and an acquaintance.
We had a really nice tour of shorter length. The perfect starting point for the battered hoof!

Wanderlust

Wanderlust has caught me again, like it or not. In March, my girlfriend and I are heading to Madeira for a round of hiking and enjoying nature.

There is hardly a minute in this stressful time in which I do not think about the relaxation. I also hope that by then my foot will be as resilient as before. Otherwise, I will easily be left behind by my better half on this trip.

Well, even if it comes to that, it will still be a nice vacation: finally getting out into nature again, spending several nights under the stars and being able to enjoy breathtaking views.

2016-01 Minimal Summer Packing List

Here is an XUL (Extreme Ultralight) packing list; many comfortable pieces of gear are skipped in favour of weight. Still, this list works for weekend trips down to a minimum temperature of 5°C.

Ultralight and Comfortable

Ultralight and Comfortable is the blog of author Kenneth Shaw. The English-language blog revolves around the topics of minimalism, photography and ultralight trekking. Strictly speaking, it’s more lightweight trekking. Nevertheless, it is interesting to see how luxuriously you can go on a trip thanks to ultralight gear and still by far not reach the pack weights of classic trekking.

QBloggt

Q is an ultralight blogger of the early days. Although the blog has not had any new entries for several years, what was written is still as valid as at the time of publication. Reading through the blog provides a good introduction to the world of ultralight trekking.

Gygago

Gygago is the blog of Stromfahrer from the ULTF. The focus of this blog is on modifying and optimizing one’s own gear items. The modified gear typically impresses with easier handling or saved weight. Usually both points are even achieved. The blog is thus clearly aimed at tinkerers and surprises me again and again with its optimizations!
