Stoves

There are countless stoves available on the market and many can be built yourself in MYOG fashion. To help you decide, I will describe the different types of stoves and their intended uses here.

Esbit/Trioxane Stoves

Esbit stoves are mainly used by the German armed forces. In ultralight trekking, there are some who rely on this type of stove.

Petrol, Diesel and Multifuel Stoves

I don't use any of these myself; I find them too heavy, loud, and too maintenance-intensive.
Nevertheless, these stoves have two unbeatable advantages:

Hobo stoves are an invention of the American migrant workers (hobos), who warmed their meals in freight trains without immediately setting the entire wagon on fire.
The principle is the same for all hobo stoves.
