Potential Christmas Gifts

Christmas is just around the corner and every year the question arises of what to give your loved ones.

If your loved ones have an affinity for hiking, this list might contain one or the other suitable gift.

Mini playing card deck

After I found out in Sweden this year how nice a game of poker with my loved one can be, I put together a small poker case for her. That way we can still play a round in the sleeping bag in the evening. Maybe that would also be something for someone in your circle of acquaintances. For €7 you get two poker card decks right away, which are suitable for various games.

Klymit pillow

Over the past years, I have found that a suitable pillow is also necessary for restful sleep. This pillow is unusual because it can be stacked wonderfully and is therefore variable in height. This makes the pillow equally suitable for side sleepers and back sleepers. At €20 the gift is not cheap, but not overpriced either.

NiteCore NU10 headlamp

A headlamp for €30 is not exactly cheap for a small gift, but even after a quarter of a year of use since my review, I cannot say anything negative about the lamp. That is why I would also give it away with a clear conscience.

No-name headlamp

This headlamp is an inexpensive alternative to the NU10. Similar specs, also chargeable via USB, but at a price of just €10 it is a real bargain.

BRS3000T gas stove

This stove is not for long cooking sessions, but at under 30 grams it is currently the lightest gas stove you can buy. Even the price of just €13 is still within a reasonable range for gifts.

NiteCore Tube flashlight

A mini flashlight that has been on my keychain since my hike on the Harzer Hexenstieg and is used on the most varied occasions. At a price of €12, a very nice gift!

UL towel

This towel has also been on my keychain for an eternity and has already been on many trips. On longer trips it is occasionally replaced by a slightly bigger one, but after Sweden ‘15 I can say that it suffices even as the only towel!

For just €8, that is a practical gift.

Victorinox Manager

This pocket knife is my absolute favorite and accompanies me on every trip. At 31 grams, the Manager is not only very light but also affordable at €22. With a blade, scissors, nail file, toothpick, bottle opener and ballpoint pen, the knife fulfills all the functions I need on the go. If I did not already have one, I would give myself one for Christmas.

Victorinox Swisscard

The Swisscard is a very good alternative to the Victorinox Manager. The Swisscard fits well in a wallet and can therefore be taken anywhere. Both the price and the weight match those of the Victorinox Manager, so it remains a personal choice!

Merino Buff

Buffs are versatile and warm more than just the neck. The merino Buffs feel very pleasant on the skin and are a tiny bit longer than the synthetic version. It has been a long time since I last went on a trip without a Buff. At just under €20, this is a very useful gift.

Sea to Summit Dry Nano stuff sacks

On a trip in bad weather, it is important to store your gear waterproof. This is possible, for example, with a liner in the pack. A large stuff sack is excellently suited as a waterproof liner that keeps the gear inside dry. Alternatively, several small stuff sacks can be used. Then not only is the gear packed waterproof, but it also provides more order. Price-wise, these potential gifts range between €10 and €30.

Smartphone lenses

Today’s smartphones already offer good quality in the photos they take. It is not for nothing that a manufacturer advertises on social networks with the hashtag “#ShotonIPhone”. Unfortunately, the built-in lenses cannot be changed. But with these clip-on lenses, new perspectives can be coaxed out of the smartphone. At a price of just €10, this is a real bargain.

Platypus collapsible bottle

Water is known as the source of life. During a hike, several liters are needed daily. On dry sections, these amounts must be carried in the pack. Collapsible bottles have the huge advantage that they take up hardly any space when empty and, inflated, can even serve as a pillow. For €10 to €20 depending on capacity, this would be a suitable gift for outdoor-loving friends and acquaintances.
