Therm-A-Rest XLite

The XLite is Therm-A-Rest's all-round three-season pad, impressing with good insulation at a low weight & packed size.

Therm-A-Rest's NeoAir series works by reflecting thermal radiation and minimising convection. In the NeoAir pads, the air-filled space is separated into many small chambers. The separating elements are also coated like emergency blankets.

The XLite is the lightest pad of Therm-A-Rest's NeoAir series at 370g. According to the manufacturer, this allows temperatures down to -6°C. Personally I find these figures a bit too optimistic. For me, the pad alone works down to +5°C at most. At lower temperatures, combining different pads is recommended here too. Foam pads are particularly suitable here, for example the Laufbursche mat or EVA foam pads. When combining pads, their R-values add up. A graphic showing which R-value is needed for which temperature can be found here.

The lying comfort is a bit better than the Klymit Static V, on par with the Therm-A-Rest XTherm and a bit worse than the Exped Synmat.

All in all, I use this pad from spring to autumn and can recommend it without reservation despite the relatively high price.
