2017-10 Long Weekend

Autumn is approaching and it was time for us to go on tour again. The P(f)alatines announced an October tour for the long weekend.

So for once the route planning was neither in my hands nor in Bimbi's.

The tour was supposed to start at the train station in Lambrecht. But Murphy had his fingers in the pie this time too. Bimbi overslept, which made it impossible for us to reach the starting point in time. We told the others that they didn't have to wait for us and could start right away.

Because of this, Bimbi and I drove straight to Frankenstein to hike a shorter loop before meeting up with the others at the trekking site.

In typical autumn weather we set out and explored the trails around Frankenstein. They were very beautiful, and hardly a soul was out and about in this weather. A true dream for a day in the forest.

Bimbi diligently collected mushrooms for the evening while I preferred to just photograph them. Probably just as well, since I don't go mushroom picking...

In the afternoon the cloud cover cleared and autumn showed its beautiful side. We collected firewood and stoked the campfire for our soon-to-arrive group.

We let the evening wind down with good food by the campfire and crawled into our quilts early.

The next morning was very hazy. The visibility was definitely in need of improvement.

I didn't take any more photos for the rest of the day.

In the evening we reached a shelter hut. While part of the group slept in the shelter, the hammocks were set up in adventurous constructions.

We spent the evening together in the hut, eating and chatting by candlelight late into the night.

The next morning we headed back towards the train station in Frankenstein. The sun greeted us, and soon we were sitting on the train home again.

Despite the weather, this was a very nice tour. Thanks for that!
