Stuff sacks

So, now that some SilNylon fabric in a bright color has arrived, I put the sewing machine back to work for a few new stuff sacks.

I finally needed properly fitting stuff sacks for my repair kit and for my first aid kit. Zip-lock bags are okay, but hardly nice. Somehow they are always too big, and the ones that do fit in size are too fragile for me, etc. ;)

Stuff sack for the repair kit

The repair kit got the Toaks titanium foil windshield stuff sack as its base. I shortened it "quick and dirty" to the right size. The shortened stuff sack weighs 2 g including the cord lock.

Waterproof stuff sack for the first aid kit

For the first aid kit, I needed a little less than an A4 sheet of fabric, plus some plastic packing tape for the roll-top closure, about 5 cm of coreless 550 paracord, an S-biner, and a dab of SilNett.

The result is the following stuff sack:

This stuff sack weighs 6 g including the S-biner; together with the complete first aid kit and the repair kit, the total is just 101 g.

Even though the fabric is tricky to work with – it was worthwhile work!

Room for improvement

The next waterproof stuff sack will get a closure with KAM snaps, which should make it a little bit lighter still.
