ZPacks Tarps

ZPacks is an American manufacturer that handcrafts tarps and other ultralight gear from light materials such as Cuben Fiber. This is an extremely light and tear-resistant material used for the sails of racing yachts. Over the past years I have ordered two rectangular Cuben Fiber tarps from ZPacks and found them good.

The material is absolutely waterproof and does not stretch when wet. This means the tarp does not need to be re-tensioned in the rain.

The material is semi-transparent; it is always nice to watch the raindrops from a dry spot.

I treated myself to a 1-person tarp measuring 2.6m x 1.8m. This tarp weighs 180g including the Dyneema guylines I attached. In terms of dimensions, the tarp is well suited to protect one person in the A-frame or in the diamond pitch from rain and wind.

I also got a Cuben Fiber tarp measuring 3x2.6m. This tarp offers enough room for two people pitched as A-frame.

An ideal tarp for two people at a weight of just 223g.
